New Kigali International Airport

In 2019, the Government of Rwanda represented by Aviation, Travel and Logistics Holdings Ltd (ATL) and the state of Qatar agreed to cooperate in the development, financing and construction of the New Kigali International Airport located in the district of Bugesera. The two partners established a project vehicle, namely Bugesera Airport Company (BAC) for that purpose with Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) as the majority shareholder with 60% of the shares while ATL owns 40%.

The New Kigali International Airport, located 25 kilometers southeast of Kigali, is set to become Rwanda’s largest airport , serving as a regional hub for international travel and cargo . The airport, currently under construction is projected to be completed by end-2027 with a capacity to handle up to 8 million passengers and 150,000 tons of cargo annually, which will expand subsequently due to the traffic demand.

A new airport city masterplan has been developed to support the strategic growth of the surrounding areas in Bugesera district through real estate, hospitality, industrial, logistics, retail/wholesale, health, entertainment and recreational facilities.
